Self-Portraits

As the time goes on and the days get shorter and my schedule changed its getting harder to take a picture. So I’ve been looking  online for some ideas. One idea was a self-portrait. While I’ve been in what seems like a ton of pictures I’ve only taken one self-portrait, and it was horrible.  I’m still trying to figure out how to get the focus to work when I’m not behind the camera. Any suggestions and tips would be awesome.

I didn’t do anything to these pictures except for adjust the color. I started to put textures and mess with other effects when Sal stopped me. It’s hard putting your face out there, but he was right. This is me. This is what I look like on a normal day, give or take a little.  I wear little to no make up, and straighten my hair….okay only the top. My hair is wavy/curly naturally but not in a put together way. I’ve been playing with the idea of writing about who I am, but I need time for that post. Maybe sometime this weekend. Oh, and I have another addition to the Phoenix coming up in the next week so stay tuned! Finally, a parting face. :)~

You are so beautiful! There is so much written on your face. I would translate, but I won’t reveal your secrets here. I’m sending you a huge hug. Love you and miss you!

Doing a self portrait IS difficult! I don’t like being on the other side of the lens, I’ve grown so used to being the one to take the picture, I felt pretty uncomfortable in front of the camera! You did a nice job here – how did you do it? Timer? Remote? When I did mine, I just held the camera out with both hands, pointed it at my face, let the auto-focus do its magic, and snapped away until I had something I could live with!

Its weird. I dont mind pictures when Im with family or doing something that is the focus of the camera, but having to pose or sit in front of the camera to take a picture where Im the focus is HARD!!!!
Thank you. I put the camera on some pillows and set the timer. I had to put a “marker” (my sons pj’s) where I wanted to sit and try and focus on that before I took the picture. A lot of going back and forth. Haha! I would love a remote and tripod, but havent made that investment yet.

🙂 I’m glad you ended it with your last picture! I really don’t know anything about pictures, but I think every picture captures a lot, and like they say, “a pictures says a thousand words.”

Love the self portrait. I’ve struggled with the focus issue when I’m in front of the camera – which is very rare! After spending 2 hours trying to take a photo of my own back I decided to get a cable release for xmas. It plugs into the side of my camera, the cable is only about a metre long but when you press the button half way down it focuses then press all the way to take your photo. It only cost around £20. Makes like so much easier, wish I’d bought one ages ago 🙂

    lol!! Love that last “face.”

You are beautiful and very brave. I have done a few self-portraits but I usually use reflections (which is a nice way to soften things up sometimes and, since I am a woman of a certain age, softening is a very good thing). Once in a while I work up the courage to post my self-portraits, but it’s a rare thing.

I was surprised to find out how hard it actually is. I dont know if you would call it brave, because while taking the pictures I just stopped thinking and took the pictures. I took a reflection picture but I havent decided if I want to focus on the camera or me. 🙂 Im looking forward to your new self-portraits!

It’s funny how many photogs I know who do not like having their picture taken (including myself)! 😛

Wireless remote…I love mine!! What I did for my single self portrait (yes, only one…like I mentioned, SO don’t like photos of myself) was to place a towel on the ground as a marker for me where to stand, then propped up a broom (with the head approx where mine would be) then focused! Not only did it help me align where my (in-camera) focal point would be, but it also helped me check to make sure my settings were correct. Given the choice, I would recommend going wireless vs. cable…but that’s me! 😀
