After finishing up homework today and while Sal was watching the Super Bowl, I headed out to take a nature walk and try to catch the sunset. Unfortunately I was a little late for the sunset but still managed to get some good light. David Williams recently told me that good light is still available after the magic hours. I set out to see if he was right, and guess what? He was :). I took a walk behind the Community College here that is built among the many hills that surround this wonderful little town. I took one of the paths on Rademacher Hills Trail and started my little journey. I grew up in this Valley and have hiked, rode, driven, and jogged these trails. The fauna and flora that decorate these hills are little jewels in disguise. How many of us pay attention to the plants we see everyday? I know I didn’t before I started this project, but since I learn from my mistakes I do now. An ordinary walk turned into an extraordinary walk with some familiar faces :).
I took this picture using the flash on my camera (ich). The nice thing though is that you can see the little bit of sunset that hung around after the sun went down.

Love the lighting on the 2nd shot. There is just enough light to lit the cacti in the foreground and also like the “magic” hour skyline in the foreground. You could try the same technique for portraits too 😉

Ill have to keep that in mind if I can ever rope someone into possing for me :)!

I agree – generally I don’t like flash shots outdoors, but this one provides a great contrast and balance with the natural light. Well done.

Beautiful shots. I love the colors in the sky in the second one. I don’t always care for flash either, but sometimes it works. And this is one of those times. Good job! 🙂

Thank you Robin. Its always iffy when Im using it outside. I almost HAVE to inside, but I was nervous about using it last night.

Thanx for the plug and glad the shot worked out! I love the colours in the last shot, I bet getting a lower PoV and having the cacti as a silhouette against the glowing sky would have been a really cool shot! Very nicely done Morgan. 😀

No problem! You know….I had a couple like that but for some reason the silhouette didnt look right, maybe because I have never taken one on purpose and always do it by accident. Who says accidents can be cool though?

Lovely capture. The second shot is great even with the flash. In this case, it all works well together. I love the color of the sunset against the silhouette mountains.

Thank you. Im always afraid of using flash because I read everywhere how horrible it is to use the on camera flash, but the response I have gotten tells me its not a crime (in the right situation) :).
