Productivity….Whats That?

Not much to say today. Its one of those day’s where I’m restless but I don’t feel like doing anything productive. Please tell me I’m not the only one??? So I put my flats in the sunlight and let Roman water them with a spray bottle. He pretty much unearthed them… Not sure how this whole garden thing is going to go. Lol. I’m really anxious to get out there and get stuff planted, but we have a demon dog who keeps breaking out of the side of the yard that separates him from the garden. He pulled off two fence boards and dug under the gate. The vet says if we get him another dog it will stop his crazy behavior. I’m scared though. What if we get another one and that one takes up all of V’s bad behavior? We havent been able to put ANYTHING in the backyard because he chews EVERYTHING. Even a metal broom handle in half. If Roman didn’t love him so much I would probably have given him away. He’s cost us more than Roman I swear!!!

I’m hoping to get out and take some good pictures tomorrow. The weather wasnt great today so we stayed inside and ordered Chinese. Yum! Well Im off to go write back to all of you and check out your blogs for the night!

Monkey #2

What a day. I am beat. So is he…

I worked as usual, and hard. My boss will be happy to read that :D.  After Sal got home I ran to Jake’s office to pick up a flash to use for a special little girls 1st birthday.  He’s also selling it. So if I can figure it out… :).  He showed me a ton about all things photography and you can hear the excitement in his voice as he was explaining it to me.  We talked about Lightroom and Photoshop, sRGB vs Adobe RGB, custom white balance, flash’s, resizing, storing, etc. Learned a ton in about an hour. Best class I’ve ever had. Pretty impressive for not really being a class. I’m pretty sure he does it because he loves it. Ahhh…if we could all be so lucky. I also finished homework. Yuck. But it’s all good.

Ahhh time to watch some t.v. and relax. Here is the before picture taken with the flash :).

Ahhhh…..such soft light in a completely dark room.

Flats

I’m sick of wind! I work a lot outside, and when you come inside and your hair is crazy looking, it’s not a good thing. Cleaning out your ears with more than two Q-tips. No bueno.  It’s not a good look!!! Anyways, I decided we would plant some more “flats” as they are called in the gardening world (who knew?). Gotta keep the munchkin busy when its crap outside.

Gotta love dirt indoors…yeah, not really, but luckily I have mostly tile floors. I’m sure everyone is sick and tired of hearing about this garden so on another note that is completely off the subject…does anyone ever see their “views” skyrocket in an hour or two? Mine did today but I’m not sure if it’s a “bug” or something. I’m thinking it was, because it wasnt just by a few it was like 70 hits in two hours. Not normal for my little ole’ blog.

Afterwards we read about animals. What you see here is the crocodile! Ahhhh….scary! I’ve been reading a lot about B&W lately.  I see the term “flat” used a lot, but I’m not sure what it means. What makes a good B&W photo? Emotion, shadows, etc. etc.??? Help would be appreciated!

I know there is a lot of debate about textures and if they improve or ruin a photo. I would have to be on the side of artistic expression, therefore improvement, for lack of a better word. For those who have been with me on my journey so far, you know I love to use textures. Here’s the thing though. I don’t do them necessarily to make a photo better, but to play. It keeps me inspired to see different looks for the same image.  I think about what photo’s I would like to try to take and what texture I would like to apply to it. Mostly though, I do it to learn how to work the archaic PSE I have.  I find out new things every time I try to apply textures. I just learned today that you can apply textures to 3 different layers. Not sure why you would do that, but I’m sure there’s a reason. I also learned how to make a layer by itself in PSE today….I think. Its fun! So I do it!

As a side note about watermarks, I have found some amazing tutorials on watermarks, and always appreciate it when people are willing to teach (I think I say that a lot, but it’s true), however, until today I never fully understood that when you put a watermark on a texture or layer it doesn’t work. Maybe its just me, but I have to put it on my duplicate of the original. Maybe it’s because I have a really old version of Elements or maybe I missed something? Either way…learning by leaps and bounds.

Long Weekends Rock!

Every other weekend I have Friday’s off. I am so spoiled! Every time I think of moving or working outside of the government I cringe at the idea of only having 2 days for the weekend. I had planned on finishing up the garden today and cleaning the house. Neither got done. It was horribly windy outside, and I finished up some schoolwork instead.  Dont get me wrong, the basics are done in the house, so I’m not embarrassed to have people over, but I didn’t mop the floor or clean out the fridge like I had planned. Oh well, I’ll do them tomorrow…maybe. Lol! We did however go to Wal-Mart to buy some seeds that need to be started inside first.

Here’s a look at the strap I won.

Inspiration

Today was absolutely chock full of busy! This morning I went to the photography basics class with Jake Easley, and as I expected…it rocked!! Tons of information, and a great teacher! I am so thankful when people who are amazing at what they do are willing to share knowledge! I left refreshed and ready to shoot! I also won a dia los muertos camera strap from Lucky Straps which was awesome, because I’ve been talking about wanting to get one for a while now! I’m kind of cheap though, so I scored big time! So a big thanks to Jake again! Im looking forward to more classes. Hint, hint!!!

We also, amongst other errands, finished up the fence on the other side of the house so V wont eat the garden, finished up the garden so all I have to do now is plant, and had a play date with Ty. This was the first time the two of these actually played together. Usually they just ignore each other while playing in the same vicinity. Weird kids!

Not a great picture, but they are so darn cute playing with their food!

We also helped Grandpa finish some concrete work today. Not sure whats going on here. Kind of looks like he’s eating it. Not good…lol!

He has been in such a silly mood all day! Love it! See everyone tomorrow!

Dress Up

I love it when Roman wears my shoes! Or clothes, or anything that’s 10 sizes to big for him. It cracks me up! He’s been sliding around the house in these for the last hour with this little smirk on his face. Children are such soul savers. He makes me laugh when I feel like I’m sinking into LIFE.  Unfortunately I think we hit the terrible 2’s. Even though he’s almost 3, he hasn’t really the melt downs or attitude I heard so much about until lately. I’m not quiet sure what to do about it. I’m trying the Positive Parenting approach, but I’m not sure its right for him. He’s so smart, and I think he’s like a dog. He smells fear and he attacks! This is the first child I’ve even ever been around. I’m sure there will be many mess ups, since he’s my test child basically. I just hope I can figure it out along the way without screwing him up too bad. Haha!

On another note, we have a trip planned for the 19th, so hopefully I’ll get some cool pictures then. I really want to go take some landscape and nature photographs, but it seems impossible with everything.  Ill figure it out :). And….I have a photoshoot coming up in the next couple weeks too. I won a contest for best tattoo (check Gigi’s Phoenix out here) with the photoshoot as the prize. I’m sure the photographer wont mind if I link him or put a picture in the blog, so look out for that too. I’m really excited! I havent taken pictures by myself in a long time. I havent been in professional photo’s by myself since I graduated. This means tons of fun girly stuff like make up, nails, hair, the works!!! Shopping and pampering here I come!

Earning A Green Thumb

We have been digging these gardens for a couple of days now. I have two 40′ X 5′ plots almost ready.  I’ve mentioned that I kill plants off faster than they stock them, so this is definitely going to be a learning experience. I really want to do all organic veggies. If anyone has any ideas let me know!

On another note, Im busy as usual. I have a photography class with the wonderfull Jake Easly on Saturday morning. So I expect to be inspired again. Hopefully that will give me the extra push to keep up with this blog everyday again.
