And The Award Goes To….

Mr. Bill Deem for being the Best Boss Ever!!!! Yeah, I know this is an unusual statement, but I am sad that my boss has retired.  Last Thursday was his last day after 38 years of work. I wont say how old that makes him, or he’ll remind me exactly how many years I have until I retire. Ugh.

Bill hired me a little over two and a half years ago to work in the Base Safety Office as a Safety Specialist.  I had some background in safety but wasnt fully aware of what it entailed. I felt instantly at ease with the other employees and confident that I could trust my boss.  He has always done what he said he was going to do and has helped me advance as a person and employee.  He supported me when I lost Gigi and gave me that gentle push to face the public again when I was terrified to.  He was my biggest cheerleader when it came to my accomplishments and the best teacher when it came to areas that I wasnt up to speed on…which were and still are a lot!

He taught me that Buck Owens is Buck Owens, and you can only go through Death Valley to get to Trona (other than Ridgecrest).  He supported me when I requested leave without pay in order to spend more time with Roman when I realized he was growing up way to fast. He let me take day’s off to play in the snow with Roman.  He knew all of his employee’s in and out, and how to best manage them individually.  He knew that I would probably come into work sometime that week and tell him I needed to leave…in 15 minutes, but he was always understanding and never made me feel bad for it.  He gave me advice that I think were sometime from personal experiences. He encouraged my academic hunger and facilitated payment for it.  He told me the meaning of “whistle britches”…which I still need to talk to my dad about since he used to call me that, and brough pomegranates from his tree in for the office to have. He made the best breakfast ever called Armadillo Eggs! Yum! I learned how to tell someone off without them knowing, and how to pick your battles.  This list could go on and on and on…. but there is so much. So much that he tried to teach and I havent mastered yet. Or things that I absolutely refuse to learn or agree with (Fresno is not good at football). Or things I just plain old missed.

The most import thing though is that he made me laugh. Every day I looked forward to the safety walk and the nuggets of wisdom he so generously shared with me.  Thanks Boss for making such a lasting impression, and giving me an example of an extraordinary boss! When I “own it all” I hope I’m half as good as you were.

How freaking awesome is the processing on this picture? I love it! Thanks to presets :)!  What a beautiful day in sunny Southern California! I’m not even sure how hot it was! It was definitely hot enough to go swimming in the blow up dragon/volcano pool we have. 🙂 So the title of todays post has multiple meanings. One of them have to do with the rug rat you see above.  The pool that was previously mentioned has a dragon on it. You have to go through his legs to go down the little slide. Roman for some reason is terrified of it. He has never let us blow it up, let alone get near it. For the last year he asks “what is dragon doing” when we go in the garage, which is quiet a bit.  So weird because he loves the movie How to Train Your Dragon but he’s not having any of this one! But…today he actually let us blow up the pool and the majority of the dragon (not the head). He even went through the legs, as long as we were standing right there :). Growing up so fast, but still so little. I love it!!!

Another preset that I’m in love with! On to the remaining milestones.  One and a half were reached today! First…I got a promotion! Freakin soooooo excited! I have the best boss ever, and am so thankful to have had him! Its great when the big guy takes care of his employee’s! I officially feel like I’m a big kid at Journeyman Level! Thank you!!!

The half…I picked up my diploma for my Associates of Business Administration! I finished back in December, but just now got the diploma :). Trying to decide if I’ll “walk”. I wont for my B.S. because it’s all the way in Alabama, so…. Yeah, not sure yet. I’ll figure it out.  What an amazing Monday! I plan on carrying on the momentum for the rest of the week :)).

Half-Assed Sabitical, Here I Come!!!

Let me start off by saying I ABSOLUTELY love taking pictures. I love playing with them in PSE and I love posting them for all to see, but I am soooo frikin tired. I feel like I have run 10 miles and back and did it again. It has nothing to do with photography and everything else to do with whats going on in my life. There’s nothing horrible going on or extremely taxing (anymore), but I am exhausted.

Now please don’t think that I’m complaining in this next part; I’m just merely explaining a little. I go to school full-time, work full-time, and have a little family. I am beyond busy and getting on the computer after doing homework or whatever-it-is-I-do-that-sucks-my-energy-out, is the last thing I feel like doing right now. However, I made a pledge to myself to do this 365 photo challenge and I have been amazed at how much I have learned and at how much I have fallen in love with photography. I know I have missed a few days, and a lot more than a few days have been sub par pictures, even for my standards, and I don’t have high ones when it comes to my ownbpersonal photography :)~, but I plan to keep going. I may not write as much, post multiple pictures, or comment as frequently on other peoples amazing blogs for a week or so. It’s okay though, because when I come after my half-assed sabbatical, I’m coming back full force!

Balancing Act

Today was the first day of my new schedule, again. Its like the 3rd time I’ve changed it, but with Roman’s day care provider moving out-of-town its been a little hectic. Anyways, I picked Roman up at 3:00 and we went straight to the Inyokern park. I have to say, its super nice! It was part of a project that the old Governator started. We played for about an hour then the Inyokernites came, and I thought it was best that we leave.

So on we went to the hills by our house. We ran and looked for Flowfers for another hour before we went home. The desert smells like spring right now. Everything is green and wet and fresh. I think I’m going to try and go hiking Friday morning. It’s a short hike, but something is better than nothing.  Unfortunately I didn’t bring my camera for all this. Ugh. But, its okay because I spent time focusing on Fat Face and not torturing him with the camera. If I go Friday I will take pictures. It really is beautiful right now.

We went home had dinner then played. Roman watched Matter’s Tall Tales on YouTube, you can see him singing above with all of his cars paraphernalia next to him. I love it!  It’s amazing how much he can do with a computer. He opens programs I didn’t know I had, changes layouts on Microsoft Word, and changes the layout of my desktop, in one click. It really is amazing that kids are growing up with so much technology around them. Finding the balance between technology and good ole’ fashioned fun is a priority in our life for sure.

A final shot of some of Roman’s audience. 🙂
